In the heart of the captivating rolling meadows, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His being was unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was essentially to look after his flock of ewes.

Their gentle baas and the whispering of the gales across the solo tree on the hilltop were his main co-dwellers. Day upon day, watching over his charges inculcated in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.

However, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a naughty scheme.

Stories of predators prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy chose to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.

One afternoon he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to help but found nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the confusion on their faces. This prank persisted for a few days more. But, one morning, a real wolf did charge at the flock. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty here and the repercussions of crying wolf.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
